Subaru Road Racing Team Benefits at Barber Motorsports Park

- Team Driver Spaude guides all-wheel drive Subaru Impreza WRX STI to sixth row start -

Birmingham, Ala. – April 9, 2010

Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT) drivers Andrew Aquilante and Bret Spaude will start from the sixth row for Saturday’s round 3 of the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Ala.

During qualifying, Spaude hustled the Phoenix Performance-built Subaru Impreza WRX STI to a lap speed of 84.312 miles per hour around the undulating, twisting, 2.3-mile road course, and his personal fastest lap of the weekend. The SRRT entry races in the 30-car Grand Sports class. The team competed in the Street Tuner class in the two prior years with a Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B.

Team owner Joe Aquilante and Technical Director John Heinricy said they are “Pleased by the qualifying result.”

“We were still learning the intricacies of the Subaru Impreza in the first two races,” said Aquilante, whose son, Andrew, posted the fastest time on the track in two of the three pre-qualifying GS sessions.

“This is the result of hard work and constant development by John Heinricy, and by our crew and drivers. A big benefit, though, is that perhaps more so than any track we race on, Barber Motorsports Park has a configuration that suits the Subaru’s core technology of all-wheel drive and a strong, turbocharged engine.”

Both drivers are 22 years old. Both have raced in this series at Barber Park with success and both enjoy the track.

The 2.5-hour race gets the green flag Saturday at 4:09pm CT. The race will be televised to air April 17 at 3pm ET on SPEED-TV.
